It’s intimidating.
Yes, it can be intimidating. But it shouldn’t be. Hiring a designer should be a comforting experience, like going to your favorite hairstylist for a new style. You provide inspirational images and then collaborate on texture, length and details before you begin. Interior design starts in much the same way. Begin the process with a list of questions and conversation topics. During this phase, the designer should do at least as much listening as talking, and if you feel intimidated or overwhelmed, they’re probably not the right designer for you.

I can design myself using the internet.
The internet has certainly made DIY design easier and more accessible, but it can be difficult and overwhelming to go from a portfolio of internet inspiration to a completed design for your space. A designer won’t listen to what I want and will take over the project.
